Requirements for the position:
- You must have consistent and open availability 4-5 days a week
- You must love both dogs and cats
- You have a reliable car that you will drive to visits
- You have a smartphone that can handle more apps and data
- You can commit to working with us for at least 1 year
- You have references
- You can work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s (But don’t worry, you will have a holiday too)
- You are neat and tidy in the client’s home
- You must be detail-oriented and a good problem solver
- You must be reliable and responsible
- You can pass a criminal/background check
- You can pass a motor vehicle/driving record check
Schedule & Availability
We look for sitters who have consistent availability during our designated morning, midday, or evening visit blocks. Every sitter gets two days off each week. We are currently hiring for midday dog walkers and AM/PM split shifts for cat visits will also be available.
Many freelancers, writers, artists, online workers, semi-retirees, and delivery drivers find our schedule fits their lifestyle well. It takes new sitters 2-3 months to build up a client base. During this time, our pet sitters & dog walkers start off earning $500-$900 per month as they are being trained. When sitters consistently accept new visits they are making between $1400-$2200 per month, and working between 15-20 hours each week.
The more time you have available to take on new clients, the faster will be able to make a higher income.
Pay
All walkers/ sitters are paid per client visit. Specific pay tables are shared with candidates during the interview process. Staff average $20 per hour BEFORE tips, mileage reimbursement, client referral bonuses, and holiday bonus pay.
Level 1: Pet Care Associate: during these first 8 weeks of employment with PAF, you participate in online and in-person training, which includes shadow walks and care transition walks with Theresa before you start your solo walks/ sits with clients. You may be asked to participate in New Client or New Sitter Meet and Greets. You are provided with an onboarding checklist and materials to support your understanding and implementation of our policies and procedures.
Level 2: Pet Care Specialist: as a fully-trained staff member, you have a routine schedule, you are invited to participate in Meet and Greets with Theresa, you go to New Sitter Meet and Greets solo, and you are paid at a higher rate. You have completed all initial training requirements, including Pet CPR and First Aid Training. All staff participate in ongoing development in animal care and handling and are given timely feedback on the quality of their work on a regular basis. Staff participate in employee reviews every 6 months and we have monthly in-person staff gatherings for community building and learning.
Level 3: Pet Care Professional: Employees at this level have completed Fear Free Professional training and have proven to be our most committed and skilled leaders on the team. PCPs are paid at our highest rates and may serve as mentors for our new Pet Care Associates.
